Constructing Careers in the property sector

Constructing Careers in Yorkshire's property sector

Pupils from Bishop Young and Lawnswood Schools had a chance to get hands-on with careers in the property sector at our workshop on 1 March.

Held at Leeds College of Building,  Constructing Careers was a chance to meet the movers and shakers in Yorkshire’s property sector and learn about the range of careers in the sector.

Kier Construction, Watson Batty Architects and Quod Planning held workshops and interactive talks on construction, architecture and town planning while pupils had a go learning the basics of plumbing with tutors from Leeds College of Building.

Volunteers from a range of Yorkshire-based property firms joined the day as mentors, taking part in workshops and introducing young people to the breadth of roles in the sector.

Our Schools Network helps us to reach young people across Yorkshire, and Constructing Careers is designed to open secondary school students’ eyes to career paths and opportunities they may not have thought to explore. We’re incredibly grateful for our network of property professionals for getting stuck in, sharing their career journeys with pupils and giving them an insight into what it’s like to work in the wonderful world of property.

Volunteer mentor Rachel Groves of Moda said commented “I hope that being a female having started my property career with a National Diploma in Construction inspired the 15 year old girls I was partnered with,” while Watson Batty described the day as “brilliant opportunity for all the students to discover, explore and find out more about an exciting career in the construction industry.”

We had some brilliant feedback from pupils on the day, who said:

“It was a great experience and I learnt a lot!”
“Wonderful staff, we had an amazing day”
“Very fun and I learnt a lot about different career paths”

A huge thank you to Leeds College of Building and to all the organisations who made the day a success.
