Our Project Work

Great Yorkshire Build

This scheme helps us to deliver state-of-the-art school facilities, creating environments where staff feel re-energised to teach and children are excited to learn.

Schools Out

Our Schools Out events can’t cure or take away a child's worries. But they can - and do - provide much-needed respite for young people and their families.

Our Grant Giving Programmes

If it matters
to you, it matters to us.

Grants for Individuals

Every child needs to be comfortable and supported in their environment in order to reach their own, unique potential. To nurture this, certain specialist equipment is vital.

We understand how tough and costly it can be caring for a child with additional needs, and want to do all we can to make life easier for families across Yorkshire.

That’s why, at Yorkshire Children’s Charity, we support families across the region, like yours, who need a grant for specialist equipment.

Play and leisure are important. But we also recognise the difference practical amenities, such as specialist baths and hoists, make to a child and their family. So however big, or small, your request might be, we will do all we can to help. If it matters to you, it matters to us.

Grants for Schools & Organisations

Non-profit organisations, schools, nurseries, youth clubs, sports clubs, self-help groups and voluntary groups are the foundations of many of Yorkshire’s communities. They play a significant role in influencing a child’s development, helping to shape values and set expectations, and provide a vital support network for young people and their families.

Yorkshire Children’s Charity offers grants up to the value of £10,000 for organisations that support children and young people across our region. We welcome your application, providing you meet our funding criteria, which you can learn about here.

If you help others, we want to help you.

Practical, tangible support to benefit those who need our help most

The School Network

Through our community of volunteers, we want to understand the struggles faced by the vulnerable children and young people in your care, and help wherever we can.

To do that, we encourage our volunteers to ‘GO MAD’ (Go Out And Make A Difference) to schools and communities across Yorkshire. It is through The School Network that we learn where to direct our resource. Our volunteers will work with you and your school to provide practical, tangible support to benefit those who need our help most.

You sign up to The School Network, using the link at the bottom of the page.

We introduce you to one of our amazing volunteers, who will become your point of contact.

How to join our network

Twice a year, we ask you to fill in a short questionnaire to highlight the social and economic challenges your school and local community face. This helps us to understand how we can help.

As a member of The School Network, you will be eligible to benefit from fundraising campaigns, such as our winter shoes and coats appeal.

Your point of contact can help you to apply to Yorkshire Children’s Charity for funding, and will champion any projects or causes that require support.

You have access to, and will be given priority booking for, our Schools Out events.

If it makes you happy, we’re happy!

Grants for Wheelchairs

A wheelchair offers lifechanging benefits: independence, liberation, and the opportunity for children and young people to engage with the world around them.

When you consider a wheelchair’s incredible physical and mental benefits, affording one should be as accessible as the equipment itself. However, wheelchairs are expensive, and often beyond the financial limits of families. This is where Yorkshire Children’s Charity help, providing wheelchair grants to families across the Yorkshire region.

Yorkshire Children’s Charity can part or fully fund a wheelchair that is unavailable through the local authority. To meet the different needs of all the children and young people we support, we welcome all types of applications, from beach, sports and all-terrain wheelchairs to manual and powered chairs.

Every disabled child has the right to a fun and fulfilled life. We’ll help them begin their journey with a wheelchair grant from Yorkshire Children’s Charity.

... and be what children should be; carefree.

Schools Out

Our young people face hardship and challenges, from poverty, violence and abuse to a lack of social inclusion, chronic pain and arduous hospital visits. Our Schools Out events can’t cure or take away these worries. But they can – and do – provide much-needed respite for young people and their families. At Yorkshire Children’s Charity, we work closely with our community of schools throughout the year to provide practical, tangible help to young people in our region.

This includes hosting four flagship fun days for children who are at a disadvantage in life due to disability, ill health, or financial circumstance. Schools Out days give these children the opportunity to enjoy, explore and engage in the world around them, and be what children should be; carefree.

The smallest things in life can make
the biggest difference

A Helping Hand for Families

The smallest things in life can make the biggest difference, especially when your family is facing financial hardship. That’s why Yorkshire Children’s Charity provides grants of up to £200 per child to help cover both the niceties and the necessities that come with having children.

Just like you, we want your children to have happy, enriched childhoods, filled with memories and opportunities. But we know it can be tough at times, even when you’re trying your very best. Let us take away some of the pressure and ask a representative at your child’s school to recommend you for funding.

All children have the right to the best education

Great Yorkshire
Build

All children have the right to the very best education, and school facilities have a big part to play. Yet at Yorkshire Children’s Charity we’ve experienced, first-hand, the outdated, insufficient and inadequate facilities at many of our region’s SILC and SEND Schools. The Great Yorkshire Build iniative is designed to change just that. Through this scheme, we’ll be able to deliver state-of-the-art school facilities, creating environments where staff feel re-energised to teach and children are excited to learn.

The Great Yorkshire Build is an initiative that is widely recognised by the Yorkshire commercial and residential property sector. It’s also supported by many of the region’s building contractors and suppliers, both large and small. We rely on people in professional services, such as architects, quantity surveyors and project managers, to lend their time to deliver projects, from design to execution.

The Great Yorkshire Build projects are often determined by the location of our partners and contractors. Therefore, we are unfortunately unable to accept applications from all schools. If you feel your school would benefit from a Great Yorkshire Build then get in touch and we’ll keep your details on file if we find a suitable contractor.
